Falcon 9 launches NASA astrophysics and heliophysics missions

by Jeff Foust March 12, 2025March 12, 2025

A Falcon 9 launched a pair of NASA science missions March 11 that will explore the infrared universe and study the solar wind.

A composite image of the Sun captured by NASA's NuSTAR and Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO), showing high-energy X-rays streaming from the Sun's surface. The image highlights the Sun's dynamic and active corona, with colorful, glowing arcs of plasma extending outward. The field of view covers the Sun’s western limb, displaying vibrant shades of orange, blue, and green that represent different wavelengths of emitted light, revealing energetic processes such as solar flares and coronal loops.
