A graduate of the Columbia Graduate School of Journalism, where he won the Horgan Prize for Excellence in Science Writing, Paul Kallender-Umezu is co-author of “In Defense of Japan: From the Market to the Military in Space Policy” (Stanford University Press, 2010). He is an associate researcher at the Global Security Research Institute and a doctoral candidate at Keio University, where he studies space and cybersecurity policy transition. He has been contributing to SpaceNews for nearly 20 years.
